1. Background Information
Use the books provided on the trolley and the following links to help you complete the "Background Information" section of this project.

"British Columbia--Industry" Links from Van Tech Library's Social Studies Page (Scroll down the page until you find this section.)
Encyclopedia of B.C.--Excellent information on the history of many of B.C.'s industries. Login and password information available in the library.

2. Newspaper/Magazine Articles

EBSCO Database 1)Search for your subject using KEY WORDS and enclosing phrases in QUOTATION MARKS e.g. [forestry "British Columbia"] or ["mining industr*" "British Columbia"].

2) REFINE your search if you get too many irrelevant results by using the menu on the l left side of the window.

Vancouver Sun / The Province Online--Log-in information available in the library. Use the "Search" box at the top of the window to find articles on your industry.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Use quotation marks when searching for phrases, e.g. ["Forest Industry"]
or ["Film Industry" "British Columbia"].

CBC--Use the "Search" box to find information on B.C. industries. Use quotation marks around phrases to find the most relevant articles, e.g. ["mining industry" "british columbia"].

MIDDLE EAST PROJECT--Social Studies 8

Use the books provided and check the following resources:

World Book Online (Look up "Middle East")--Search for topics such as "Middle East", "Petroleum" (look at the maps of world petroleum reserves), "Islam", and names of countries, e.g. "Saudi Arabia" or "Iraq".
BBC News--Middle East (Look at the country profiles at the bottom of this page.)
Culturgrams (Use the Van Tech login.) This database has detailed information on the people, culture, society, etc. of every country in the Middle East.
Middle East--New York Times--Has recent news from the Middle East. For information on a particular country, use the "Go to a country page" pulldown menu on the upper right-hand side.
