About the Van Tech Library

When you visit the library you will find a wide range of print and digital resources that support your academic work and provide outstanding opportunities for recreational reading.   You will be visiting the library and developing research and inquiry skills with your classes throughout the year.  Don't forget to also visit us on your own.  We will help you with your research, show you how to use the library's online databases, answer your questions, and connect you with that perfect book.   Many students, who need a peaceful place to read or think, enjoy the comfortable chairs in our quiet reading area.

Digital Library

The library's collection contains a vast array of digital subscription resources for you to use at school and at home.  This digital library is a vital source of reliable, readable information for all students and can be accessed from the home page of this web site with ID and passwords.  (A brochure providing this information is available in the library.)  Our online library includes digital encyclopedias (e.g. World Book Online), full-text periodical databases, and multimedia databases (e.g. Global Issues in Context).

Computer Lab

The library has thirty computers for student use.   During class time these computers are usually reserved for whole-class activities.  Students visiting the library on their own while classes are in session (i.e. those who've been sent down by teachers, who are working on online courses, or who have spare periods) will need to ask about computer availability before settling down to work.  These computers are always available for individual student use when classes are not in session.

Borrowing Library Materials

The library has a great collection of materials for students to borrow.  You are encouraged to check out what's available by both visiting the library and searching Destiny, our online catalogue.  (To search Destiny, just go to the Home page and click on the Van Tech Catalogue link.)  Your library card is your GO-CARD, which is issued to every student at the end of September.  You can borrow materials before you receive your new go-card.  Just bring your books to the circulation desk and we'll do the rest!  The loan period for most items is two weeks.  You can check your account by logging into Destiny and selecting the "My Info" tab.   If you need to keep items past the due date, just take them to the library and we'll renew them.
